Poverty can simply be defined as the state of being poor and unable to provide basic human needs
such as feeding, clothing and shelter amongst other necessities. While poverty alleviation means
the modes being adopted to eradicate poverty in the society. This can be done through creating job
opportunities and a friendly entrepreneur atmosphere. The Nigerian Government has taken certain steps to alleviate poverty in Nigeria. The Federal Government in a bid to aid poverty alleviation has in several fora trained and equipped women and youths with capital and machinery to enable them provide for themselves and has also introduced skill acquisition programmes. It has also setup some agencies with the sole aim to alleviate poverty in Nigeria. One of such organizations is NAPEP (National Poverty Eradication Programme) which is currently running a programme called “Give Back”, to encourage Nigerians in Diaspora contribute financially and otherwise to poverty eradication in Nigeria.
