The issue of HIV/AIDS although much talked about can never be over flogged in Nigeria. The government has not rested on its oars in an attempt to curb the spread of the disease in the country.

AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) is a disease characterized by the destruction of the human immune system. It is a virus that destroys the immune system's ability to fight off infection. It stands today as the world greatest pandemic as finding a cure for the disease has proved futile so far.

Efforts by the Nigerian Government
Although less than 1% of Nigerians know their Aids status and analysis show that Africa including Nigeria is the hardest hit by AIDS epidemic, the Nigeria Government is strongly and rightly doing all it can to educate and inform the masses about the implications of multiple sex partners, lack of protection during sex, infected blood transfusion and use of already infected sharp objects, all of which can lead to contracting HIV.

More so, there are National policies that protect the rights of those living with AIDS. The Federal government of Nigeria in 2003 formulated the NATIONAL POLICY ON HIV/AIDS. Also the Federal Government has provided Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) to combat the deadly HIV virus in the country and has achieved 65 per cent success in the treatment of HIV/AIDS victims in twelve months.
