It is with a heavy heart that I announce the sudden death of Dr. Barney A. Taylor, Jnr., the CEO of Thirteen Scribes Inc., an Alliance Partner to NeGSt.
A Navy veteran and former US NASA Computer Scientist,
Barney died on Friday, 2 February 2007 in a tragic motor accident 80 km after Bauchi, Nigeria.
Barney and his brother, Engr. Barry Taylor had made tremendous contributions to the development of Nigerian National eGovernment Initiative in several ways.
As the huge display of emotion that followed the transition of Dr. Barney Taylor becomes more and more controllable, NeGSt has begun moves to immortalise Barney’s name in appreciation of his awesome talents, expertise and experience; and especially the significant contributions of the Taylors to the Nigerian eGovernment Project and their passion for Africa and particularly Nigeria. NeGSt is therefore dedicating its platform for youth e-Empowerment to the memory of this great son of Africa as well as set up, in collaboration with others a Barney A. Taylor Foundation for e-Empowerment of Youths, BaTFeY wihich will provide a technological platform for distant learning including eExams, eJobSearch, eTraining etc. for human capital development especially for young Africans as well as offer quality consulting services to African Governments towards the establishment of youth empowerment programmes like Business Development Centres, IT Parks, eVillage etc.
BaTFeY will require the support and contributions of all those who have benefited from the proficiency of Barney, his friends and associates and all those who are moved to contribute to the advancement of ICT as a tool for youth empowerment in Africa. We enjoin all of you to support this Foundation; now with ideas and later in cash or in kind. Adieu Brother Barney, the one who gave all he had for the progress of the less privileged.
